DCFL stands for
Dacorum Communities for Learning.
In the early summer of 2006, the then Chairman of Highfield Community Association, Geoff Lawrence, applied to the Learning Skills Council through Herts Adult and Family Learning Service (H.A.F.L.S.) for funding.
His bid was successful and we are in the enviable position of being able to offer many of our courses for free.
Within our first year we trained in excess of 200 learners. Most learners attended our free computer courses.

TRAINING ASSISTANTS AND VOLUNTEER HELPERS
All you need are basic IT/computer skills appropriate to home PCs, and good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate in a friendly manner. |
 |
We are proud to say that a bid for further funding has been successful. In consequence, not only did we receive a further grant in 2007, we also qualified for more funding in 2008.
As an affiliation of Community centres within Dacorum, we seek to provide training within the communities in which we are based.
One of our objectives is to deliver computer training in a non-threatening, helpful, friendly and relaxed way and to take the fear factor out of using computers.
We give everyone, irrespective of their current skills, the opportunity to become familiar with computers and computing. We start from the concept that all of our learners have a zero base of knowledge. If you have a little more knowledge then please bear with us as this may not apply to all the learners attending our courses.
Another specific strand of our project is to help people back into work. Not just by giving them IT skills, but through free advice, guidance and employability workshops.
|
We are also committed to extending learning opportunities and facilities for all our learners. One of our aims is to help disadvantaged people or people with disabilities. So please remember that if you require help of any sort, let us know before the course starts so that we can do our best to cater for any special needs you may have.
The following computer courses are FREE:
